Notes

Note N19.

2nd wife of Samuel J. KISTLER and mother of 13 children with him. . Catherine was apparently born in Greenwich Tp, probably just over the line south of Albany Tp, Berks Co. (Greenwich was originally in Albany Tp but was made into Greenwich in 1755.) Her full name may have been Maria Catharina Barbara. When she was baptized 16 Sep 1768 at the Jerusalem (Red) Church near Kempton, sponsors were Jürg & Catharine PROPST. However, her father Matthias PROBST is reputed to have "moved back to Lynn Tp to marry", so the birth area for Catharine reported by Alice Askew may have been a different girl. Catherine was reportedly confirmed 1781 in Albany Tp, that would be age 14 (typical). After father's death, she got £100, paid out gradually. She's a widow 1827 when she sponsors baptism of grandchild Elisabeth MOSSER, dau. of Jacob MOSSER & Salome KISTLER. Her will as wife of Samuel J. KISTLER (1754), written in German Sütterlin script and dated 11 Oct 1843, is Berks Co PA #1889 proven 10 Apr 1845 (Berks Will Book 2, p. 31, file 1843). In it she names children: Johannes, Michael, Christian, Daniel, David, Jesaias, Carl, Levi, Elisabeth, Magdalena, and Salmi. Everything was to be sold at auction and the money distributed equally among the children, but Jesias's share (he was probably ill, as he may have died the following year) was to be held in trust by Carl, who was to invest and control it for the benefit of Jesaias and Jesaias's children. Sons Johannes & Christian were executors. Witnesses David BILLIG and William MOSER. Translation by Lewis W. DONAT of Allentown PA 19 March 1986. [See printout of text of her will from Jim Kistler's web site under "AF_Samuel Kistler".].

Catharina is buried at Jerusalem (Red) Church, Stony Run, Albany Twp, Berks Co, PA.
