Edward Brooke, Knt., 6th Lord Cobham, son and heir of Thomas Brooke (or Broke), Knt., by his wife Joan Braybrooke, suo jure Lady Cobham, was born about 1415 (aged 24 in 1439).[1][2][3]
Edward was M.P. for Somerset in 1442.[3] He was summoned to Parliament from 13 January 1444/5 by writs directed Edwardo Broke de Cobham Chivaler[1] through 28 February 1463.[3] He was a staunch Yorkist and he fought in the Battle of St. Albans on 23 May 1455, and commanded the left wing in the Battle of Northampton on 10 July 1460.[1][2][3]
Marriages and Children
Edward married first, on or before 2 February 1436/7, Elizabeth Audley (or Tuchet), daughter of James Tuchet (or Audley), Knt., 5th Lord Audley and his first wife, Margaret Roos.[1][2][4] They had one son and one daughter:
John, Knt., 7th Lord Cobham, born about 1450, died 9 March 1511/12, married Margaret Neville and had issue[1][2]
Elizabeth, married Robert Tanfield, Esq. of Gayton, Northamptonshire[1][2]
He married second, Jane (or Joan) ______, allegedly granddaughter and heiress of Thomas Montague of Cathanger, Somerset.[1][2][5]
Death
Sir Edward Brooke died testate shortly before 7 July 1464.[1][2] His widow, Jane, married second to Christopher Worsley,[3] Esq. (died 1471) and third to Robert Palmer, Esq. Jane was living on 12 October 1479.[1]
