Biography

Seaborn R. Brooks was born about 1811 in Warren County, Georgia to parents James Brooks and Phalbia Falby Cobb.

First Marriage

In the 1840 U.S. Federal Census, Seaborn R Brooks, head of household, consisting of 1 Male (20-29) and 1 Female (15-19). This would be Seaborn and 1st wife, Rebecca living in Pike County, Alabama. [1]

Georgia marriage records for Marion County, shows marriage of Seaborn R. Brooks and Rebecca Alderman on 28 May, 1847. This marriage date is after birth date of two children. This generates a research note below. [2][3]

In the 1850 U.S. Census, Ceberm R Brooks (sic) age 38 is head of household. His wife is Rebecca Brooks age 33 and children are Joseph B. Brooks age 10, Phabba Brooks (sic) age 7, James Brooks age 4, Josiah Brooks age 3 and Mary Brooks age 1. Their home is in Pike County, Alabama. [4]

His first wife, Rebecca Alderman is presumed to have died after 1852, the birth date of her youngest child, Job, and Seaborn's second marriage to Martha on 14 July 1853. It is possible that Rebecca died in childbirth of Job.

Second Marriage

Seaborn Brooks married Martha T. Gilmore on 14 July, 1853, in Pike County, Alabama. [5]

Seaborn R. Brooks was commissioned as a Justice Peace, Pike County on 14 April, 1856, following the General Election of March, 1856. [6]

In the 1860 U.S. Federal Census, Seaborn is with his second wife, Martha B Brooks, and 5 children by Rebecca and 1 child by Martha (Lydia). Head Seaborn R Brooks, 49; Martha P Brooks, 26; Joseph B Brooks, 20; Falby Brooks, 15; Josiah Brooks, 12; Mary A Brooks, 10; Job A Brooks, 8; Lydia J Brooks, 3. They reside in the Eastern Division, Pike County, Alabama. [7]

Later Life

Seaborn served in the Army of the Confederate States of America as a private in Company G, 1st Alabama Infantry Regiment. He enlisted in February, 1861. and was honorably discharged on 12 November, 1861. The reason for discharge was ill health. His characteristics were age 51, 5'8" tall, dark complexion, hazel eyes, black hair and professional farmer. [8] [9]

Seaborn R. Brooks passed about 1867 probably in Pike County, Alabama. A source is needed.

Research Notes

Georgia marriage records for Marion County, shows marriage of Seaborn R. Brooks and Rebecca Alderman on 28 May, 1847. [10][11] This marriage date is after birth date of two of the children. This is possible but could mean another wife before Rebecca.

A source document is needed to give date of death of Seaborn.

Seaborn was born about 1811. He passed away about 1864.
