Name: James Brooks Birth Date: 1725 Birth Place: Virginia Death Date: 1812 Death Place: Georgia SAR Membership: 88949 Role: Ancestor Spouse: Unity Carroll Children: Esan Brooks

NB: This latter record has a several glaring mistakes recorded in it, it states that Esan Brooks Jr. was born 1790, and his son, Esan Brooks Sr. was born 1860, the dates or suffix have been transposed, Also I believe the name should read Esaw, and Esaw Brooks Sr. may have been attached to the wrong mother, as James and Margaret Thomason, his 2nd wife had twins Esaw and Jacob about 1769. Also Esan Brooks 1790 supposedly died in 1852 so how could he be the father of Esan Brooks 1860? I have notified them and hopefully it will be corrected.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

DAR database shows this person as a Private, Ancestor #: A015004. It is he as it lists three spouses - Elizabeth Smith, Margaret Thomason, and Eunity X.

Children proven with applications - Simon, Esau, Jacob, Elizabeth. More research is needed to attach him to John and Susan Brooks as parents. This James was listed as having enlisted in the Andrews SC regiment under Purvis, not in NC. The NC James Brooks is a different profile Ancestor #: A032510 and is listed as having served in Pitt County, more likely the son of John and Susan Brooks. Wife is named Ruth.

I think that NC James and SC James have been confused. At least if we go by DAR records.

I have just run across these trying to sort some info on another platform and there is much bad information out there.

Brooks-3951 and Brooks-988 appear to represent the same person because: similar information, multiple versions of same wife

Brooks-2265 and Brooks-988 appear to represent the same person because: list of wives and write up on other profile match. Father was married in the colonies, so children were probably born in the colonies, too...
