[Note: Savage incorrectly gave Noah's wife as Dorothy Wright, and this error has been repeated in many text/articles including Bond/Gates. She has been shown to be Dorothy Potter, by her father's will.]

Biography

Noah Brooks, son of Deacon Joshua and Hannah (Mason) Brooks, was born about 1656. In a deposition given on December 16, 1679, in a court case between Samuel Buttrick and Richard Rice, Noah stated he was 23 year of age. [1]

  • 1684: Noah was a witness to an Indian deed. [2] [3]
  • 1695: November 11: Joshua, with the consent of Hannah, sold his Concord lands to his four sons, Noah, Daniel, Joseph and Job. [3]
  • 1702: 04: 09. Noah of Concord, served aS Selectman. [3]
  • 1735: July 3: Lincoln was set off from Concord, and Noah's farm was within the bounds of the new town. [3]

He married Dorothy Potter, daughter of Luke and Dorothy (Edmunds) Potter. [3] In the will of her father Luke, written on June 11, 1695, he left bequests to his wife, children, including daughter Dorothy Brookes, and his grandchildren. [4]

Noah died on February 1, 1738/9, at the age of 82. [5] He is buried in the Old Hill Burying Ground at Concord. His inscription reads: Noah Brooks, in the 82d year of his age; son of Joshua and Hannah Brooks.[6]

Dorothy died on March 15, 1752, aged approximately 90 years. [5]

  3. Ebenezer born on February 14, 1691/2; married Sarah Fletcher daughter of Francis Fletcher on June 17, 1714; moved to Grafton, Massachusetts where he died before March,1768, when his will was filed. [5] [3]
  4. Benjamin born on April 28, 1698; married Sarah Heywood on December 29, 1719. [5][3]
  5. Mary born on July 25, 1699 [5]; died on February 15, 1760; married Timothy Minot, her 2nd cousin, son of James and Rebecca (Wheeler) Minot. [3]
  6. Thomas born on May 18, 1701; died on December 22, 1790; married Hannah Dakin on June 24, 1725. [5] [3]

Noah and Dorothy were married about 1685 since their first child was born in October of that year. Their son Ebenezer married Sarah Fletcher on 18 November 1714 (Vital Records of Concord MA, http://ma-vitalrecords.org). Ebenezer died on 5 April 1768 (same source). Son Benjamin was born on 28 April 1698 (same source).
