Biography

Joshua was born about 1786 in Albany, New York. [1]

He married at Kingston, on 30 Nov 1806, [Beal-1197|Lydia Beal]] of Kingston. On one record of the intention recorded in Barnstable the record calls him Rev. but no additional evidence has been found.[2]

Joshua Brooks passed away about 1830. A short note published in the Boston Patriot and Daily Chronicle on 30 Nov 1830 says "Mr. Greene, Post Master of this city has lately received a letter from the P. M. of Richmond, Indiana, stating that a Mr. Joshua Brooks died there August 30, that he had taught school there; that he left 5 or 6 children in or near Boston, their mother having died several years since." [3]

While his wife had not died before that date, she had petitioned the court in 1826 for divorce on the grounds of abandonment, claiming he "hath wholly abandoned that libellant, and has absconded from this Commonwealth, and hath for three years past, neglected to provide in any manner for her support, and that of his children, and said Joshua on the first day of May, a.d. 1823, and on divers days and times before and since that day, committed the crime of adultery with divers persons to the libellant unknown."[4] Her father, who died in 1829, had named her in his will, but had specifically stated that she, but not Joshua, would be the beneficiary.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joshua by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joshua:
