They had nine children: Nancy Jane (1839-after 1870); Sarah Angeline (1840-1917); Mary Margaret (1843-?); James Harvey (1844-1900); Lemuel Clyburn "O" (1845-1900); Darcus E. (1849-before 1860); Emmarilla R. K. "Emma" (1855-?); Isabella M. "Belle" (1858-1922); Elmer (1862-?).

William King "Governor" Brooks married second Matilda D. Waldron (1834-1911) on 31 Mar 1879 in Tazewell Co, VA. No issue.

William King "Governor" Brooks served in the Confederate forces in the Civil War. He enlisted first as a Private in Co. H, 61st Virginia Militia Infantry Regiment (CSA) and later as a Private in Co. F, 86th Virginia Militia Infantry Regiment (CSA).

Will

William King "Governor" Brooks issued a will dated 7 Apr 1892 in which he left all of his personal and real property to his wife, Matilda. His children by Elizabeth "Betsy" Clybourn are not mentioned. The administrator of the will was Thomas R. Waldron, Matilda's son by her first marriage. The will was proven on 5 Apr 1895. (Tazewell Co, VA, Bond Book, 1879-1889, 7 Apr 1892, pages 570-571).
