Washington Brooks (19 Dec 1819 Pennsylvania - 31 Dec 1868 Waterloo, Black Hawk, Iowa,) was the son of Benjamin Brooks and Mary Wood.

In 1845 he married (1) Elizabeth Lewis (1825-1854);

1. Marietta "Etta" Brooks (1845 – 1943 Iowa City, Johnson, Iowa) married Melvin Jerome Campbell and moved to Iowa. They had four children.
2. Cyrus M. Brooks (11 Dec 1846 Driftwood, Pennsylvania - 5 Jun 1911 Mercedes, Hidalgo, Texas) married Elizabeth Groom in Benton, Iowa in 1891.
3. John Newton Brooks (1849–1900) married Alina "Elina" Jane Whiting (1851–1926) daughter of Philip Whitfield Whiting (1821–1893) and Nancy Jones Huff (1827–1886) and had Ximena Brooks (1874–1940) and Edward Phillip Brooks (1876–1943)
