John was born about 1715. "John Brooks, Jr. b. about 1715, married Jane May, daughter of John May, from Virginia to North Carolina then to Georgia." Source: "Brooks and Kindred Families," Page 12. AND "Descendants of John Brooks Sr," Ch 4, page 329. [1]
About 1775, John Brooks Jr and Jane May Brooks moved with their family to Georgia. They settled on land that was included in Wilkes County when it was formed in 1784. Prior to that it was formed from "Indian Lands." [1]
Children of John Brooks Jr and Jane May:
Five sons of John Brooks of Virginia served in the revolution. They were Allen (Ballam), Joab Brooks, John H. Brooks, James Brooks and Micajah Brooks and they were all Revolutionary War Soldiers. After the war, they all received land grants in Georgia for their service as documented in "Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers in Georgia" page 41. [2] [3]
In the Tax List of Wilkes County, Georgia, shows Jane May, widow on 200 acres of land on Briar Creek. [1]
"Descendants of John Brooks Sr" incorrectly lists Rev James Brooks born in Jasper County, Georgia, as son of John Brooks Jr, page 329. This Rev James Brooks married Elizabeth Traylor. [1] The correct James Brooks was born in Chatham County, the same as his siblings, and he married Phalbia Falby Cobb.
