Biography

Unconfirmed paternity [1] Australia's Irish Scene 1 March 2013 p.25
Patrick Brophy (perhaps (O'Brohy originally) lived in early 1700's
Patrick had at least three sons - Patrick, Michael and James
The sons Patrick and Michael were United Irishmen who took part in the 1798 rebellion.
Michael (1743 - 1798) of Rathmore old Wicklow and his brother were executed for their role. Michael fathered c. 11 children. Research shows reasonably strong indications that Michael Harvey Brophy descends from this line.
It is surmised that the middle name 'Harvey' used by this Brophy family comes from Bagenal Harvey, a prominent rebel leader of the 1798 rebellion. The name Emmet, that commemorates Robert Emmet (1778 - 1803), a rebel who tried to organise an attack on Dublin Castle.
