Biography

Mary nee Brophy - BELLEW/ MADDEN/ CRAIG/ WILSON

Mary was the first daughter and eldest child of Kyran Brophy and Rosanna Toomey.

She had 4 marriages. Her first was to John (Jack) Bellew. Jack was the son of Patrick Bellew, farmer of Otama, Wallace and Elizabeth Annie Maslin. Mary and Jack settled at Knapdale, Southland where they engaged in farming. They had 4 children born during their marriage, all boys, John, Desmond, Francis and Peter.

Mary was widowed in 1936 when Jack died aged 40. He was buried at Gore cemetery.

Mary married again in 1940 to John Madden. The marriage may not have survived and Mary remarried in 1950 to Laurence Craig.

Her fourth and last marriage was to William (Bill) G Wilson in 1966.

Mary died in 1987 aged 82 and is buried at Timaru cemetery. GENERAL - ROW 181 PLOT 1700.
