Mary Josephine Basile (Brousseau) Cook was born to Basil Brousseau Jr. and Sarah Telekouyia Kleka Pierre of Langley, British Columbia, Canada.[1][2] Sarah Telekouyia Kleka Pierre was an indigenous Katzie woman born on the Katzie reserve.[1] on January 12, 1867 in Fort Langley, Greater Vancouver Regional District, British Columbia, Canada.
Mary Josephine Basile was one of five children born to Basil Brousseau Jr. and Sarah Telekouyia Kleka Pierre.[1] [2] Mary Josephine`s siblings included:[3]
Mary Basile married Johnny Cook in New Westminster, British Columbia on 28 Feb 1892.[4] The married couple had three sons and two daughters together, along with 16 grandchildren at the time of John's death in February of 1955. Their sons names were John Lloyd, Nicholas, and Oliver Victor Gable; their daughters names were Audrey (Cook) Wilson and Helene (Cook) Burdette. It appears that the couple may have had one other daughter by the name of Rose Keziah (Cook) Wilson (26 Jan 1906 - 7 Oct 1977), who is buried in Boundary Bay Cemetery, which is located in Tsawwassen, British Columbia, Canada.
Mary Josephine Cook died at the age of 93 on May 7, 1958 at King's Daughter Hospital in Duncan, Cowichan Valley Regional District, British Columbia, Canada.[5]
Mary Josephine is buried in Ganges Provincial Cemetery, located in Ganges, Capital Regional District, British Columbia, Canada, sharing a plot alongside her beloved husband, John Cook.[6]
In 1911, Mary Josephine, her husband John L. Cook, their daughter Mary, and several of John's extended family members were all residing together on Galiano Island in British Columbia, Canada.
