Biography

Lucy Brown was born on 16 May 1814 in Windsor, New South Wales, Australia[1], the daughter of Daniel Brown and Mary Potter. [2] Her siblings were Elizabeth Brown, Mary Ann Brown, Ann Brown, David Brown, Martha Brown and Emma Brown.

She married Jesse Upton on 30 October 1827 in St. Matthews CoE, Windsor, New South Wales, Australia[3][4] and they had three children, Thomas Upton, Daniel Stephen Upton[5][6] and Mary (Upton) Druitt[7]. The marriage ended before 1837 as her first child with William Norris was born.

Lucy formed a relationship with William Norris in around 1836 and was in a defacto marriage with him until William's death on 25 September 1843. It would appear that William and Lucy were never legally married, as Lucy was buried under the name Upton at Windsor C/E Cemetery, near her son, Henry Norris. In subsequent years before William's early death, William and Lucy had five children baptised at Windsor R/C. The children of William and Lucy were Alfred James Norris, born 1837, Jane Emma Norris, born 12 August 1838, Emma (Amelia) Norris, born 27 June 1840, William Norris, born 27 June 1840 and Henry Norris, born 5 September 1843.

After William's death, Lucy began a relationship with Laban White in about 1845[8] and they had a son, Laban White, born 5 June 1846[8].

Lucy died on 8 November 1876 in Windsor, New South Wales, Australia[9] and was buried in the Brown family Tomb, St. Matthew's CoE Cemetery, Windsor, New South Wales, Australia[10][11].
