When James Henry Brown was born in January 1816 in Wilkes, North Carolina, his father, Elijah, was 31 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 27. He married Anna Ruth Cearley on December 26, 1837, in North Carolina. They had nine children in 18 years. He died in 1902 in Benton, Arkansas, having lived a long life of 85 years.
