Biography

John was born in 1831. John Brown ... He passed away in 1909.

Obituary[1]

John W. W. Brown was born in Licking County, Ohio, June 5, 1831, and grew into manhood in that locality. He moved west to McLain [sic] county, Illinois, in 1850. He united with the Cumberland Poesbyterian [sic] church in LeRoy, McLain [sic] county, in 1860, and remained an earnest, consistent Christian as long as he lived. Mr. Brown seeved [sic] as Sunday School superintendent in Illinois for 33 years. He was married to Miss Mary Wilhoite, August 9, 1857, at LeRoy, Illinois. The family moved to Sylvia Kansas in 1892 and Mr Brown made his home here until the Master said, "Come up higher," on Christmas day 1909.

Those left to mourn are the devoted wife, two daughters and two sons, Frank Brown of Findlay, Illinois, Mrs Mary H Solan, Bethany, Illinois, Mrs Della Hudson, Sylvia, Kansas, W.B. Brown, Mendon Oklahoma, a brother Nathan Brown, Meadville, Missouri, and an aged sister in Clarinde, Iowa. Few people have the privilege of walking with a companion 52 years, and enjoying nearly fifty years of years of church membership, as he did. A host of friends outside the family mourn the loss of a sincere friend and brother.

The funeral services were held last Sunday at the Congregational church where Mr. Brown was a member of the church and superintendent of the Sunday School. The Odd Fellows lodge had charge and Rev J.C. Mayos, pastor of the deceased, preached the sermon. A very large audience of friends were present to pay their last tribute of respect to Mr. Brown. Internment was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Our sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.
