Note N56Juanita Vera Brown Tiger married Otis Kendall Cunningham on 19 April 1940 in Joplin, Jasper County, MO.
Juanita sent a note on March 31, 1942 to Otis' mother, Rosa Matthews Cunningham, from the Herrington Hospital, Pryor, Oklahoma:
"Dear Mother:
Please forgive me for not writing. We are well and I hope you are. We have yet cold weather. We are North just enough it stays cold. I have this hospital at present. Superintendent-Good sized job. So keep busy. O.K. is well. Lots of Love, Juanita & Otis."
Sounds like Juanita had the job.
Here is Juanita's obituary, provided by Perryman researcher Joan Case:
"Albuquerque Journal, March 3, 1998 Juanita Brown Tiger "Grandma",91, passed away at the Rio Rancho Nursing Home on March 1, 1998. She was born on October 10, 1906 in Indian territory, southeast of Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She was the oldest living Yuchi Indian. Her father and grandfather were both hereditary and elected Tribal Chiefs during their lifetime. She is survived by her "adopted" family, Steve, Debbie, and Rusty Steele of Corrales; nephew,"Sony" Ralph W. Caton and family of Dallas, TX; granddaughters, Alice Bernal of the Sandia Pueblo and Barbara Edmondson of Portland, TX and their families. Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Rio Rancho, with visitation from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, 1998, and services at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Burial will follow at Sandia Memory Gardens. Juanita Brown was a descendant of the Perryman's. Juanita -- Samuel William Brown Jr.-Mattie Payne -- Samuel William Brown Sr. Neosho Parthena Porter -- Hiram Harvey Porter-Rachel McKellop -- David McKellop-Susan Perryman -- Benjamin Perryman."
At the time of her death, she was going by the surname of her first husband: "Tiger."
