Biography

Harriet was the seventh of ten children born to Drew Brown and Margaret Fuller She was born in Hilgay, Norfolk England in the second quarter of 1843, and registered in the Downham district of North Norfolk.^[1] Harriet was baptised at St. Mark's Chapel of Ease in Ten Mile Bank, Hilgay parish on August 6, 1854. ^[2].

The 1851 census shows 8 year old Harriet living in Hilgay with her parents and four of her siblings, some of the children had already left home.^[3] The 1861 census shows Harriet still living at Hilgay, with her parents and four of her siblings, but since 1851 an older sister has left home and a younger brother has been born. ^[4]

Harriet married William Barker on April 19, 1862 at All Saints Church, Hilgay, Norfolk, England.^[5]. In the census return her name is spelt Harriott but on her baptism and marriage records it is spelt Harriet.
Harriet and William had two sons, John Henry, born in 1863 and James Alfred born in 1867.

The 1871 Census shows Harriet living at Ten Mile Bank, Hilgay with her husband and their two sons..^[6]

The 1881 Census shows Harriet still living at Ten Mile Bank, Hilgay with her husband and two sons.^[7]

The 1991 census shows Harriet still at Ten Mile Bank, Hilgay with her husband, and by this time their widowed son, John and granddaughter Margaret are also living with them. ^[8]

The 1911 census shows Harriet living in Hilgay with her husband and her widowed son.^[9]

Harriet died in the last quarter of 1912 at the age of 69, in the registration district of Downham, Norfolk, where she had lived all her life.^[10]
