Thomas Brown leased part of the property and eventually purchased 400 acres north of Big Rocky Run in 1761. When Thomas Brown died in 1793, his son Coleman inherited most of the estate. The land passed down through the Brown family. In the 1830s Coleman Lewis, who had married Brown's daughter Mary, took !I over the operation of the farm. When Lewis H. Machen t purchased the property from the Lewis children (his cousins) in 1843, one-eighth of an acre was reserved as a "place of interment in which lie buried the remains of some of the ancestors of . . . Samuel L. Lewis and Mary C. B. Lewis" (Deed Book 13, page 198). [3]
