Maria, the fourth daughter and fourth child of Jonathan Webster Brown and Mary Ann Luther was born 27 April 1831 at Stockbridge, Vermont.[1]Her first and middle names are reversed on her birth record.
Maria married William Bethuel Warren, the son of Ezra and Jemima T. (Densmore) Warren on 25 February 1850 at Pittsfield, Rutland, Vermont.[2] They had five known children, the first was born in Vermont, and four born in Wisconsin:
Alvah William Warren (b. 1851; d. 1828),
Ellen Matilda Warren (b. 1854; d. 1926), m. 21 Apr 1879 at Waupaca, WI, George Franklin Mather (1854-1931)[3]

In 1850, Maria, 18 years of age and William, 25 years, were newly married and living in Pittsfield, Rutland, Vermont where William worked at farming.[7]
By 1860, Maria, 28 years, and William, 35 years had moved from Vermont with their son, Alvah, 8 years, who was born in Vermont to Farmington, Waupaca, Wisconsin where William worked at farming. The family also included two daughters, who were born in Wisconsin, Ellen, 5 years and Alice, 1 year.[8]
In 1870, Maria, 35 years, and William, 45 years, and their family were in Waupaca, Wisconsin where William was engaged in cigar manufacturing. Maria, 35 years, kept house. Their children included Alvah, 18 years, who worked in a cigar shop, Ellen M., 14 years, Emma, 10 years and Mary, 6 years. Andrew Nelson, 14 years, from Denmark, who was a clerk in the cigar shop was living with the family. There daughter, Alice, who was listed on the 1860 census at 1 year of age is not shown on this census, suggesting she died young.[9]
The 1880 census shows that Maria, 49 years, kept house while William, 56 years, returned to farming. Their son, Alvah, 29 years worked the farm with his father. Daughters Emma, 20 years, and Mary, 16 years were also living with the family at Waupaca, Wisconsin.[10]
At some time following the 1880 census, Maria and William returned to Pittsfield, Vermont. He died on 11 December 1891 of apoplexy in his 67th year at Pittsfield[11]and is buried in the Pittsfield Village Cemetery at Pittsfield, Rutland, Vermont.[12]Maria had returned to Wisconsin by 1900 based on census records.[13]
A 1905 obituary for her daughter, Mary, shows Maria living in Calumet, Michigan with daughter Ellen at that time. A postcard addressed to her in 1905 shows the address of 402 Oak St. Calumet. By 1907, however, Maria is again receiving postcards in Waupaca, Wisconsin.
