Biography

Joseph Brown was the son of Nicholas and Elizabeth Brown, and was born December 10, 1647 in Reading, Massachusetts.[1] He may have been the twin to Elizabeth Brown, although there is no reference in Reading Vital Records of her birth. She is shown in this source with the same birthdate as Joseph.[2]

Joseph married Elizabeth Bancroft May 26, 1674, at Reading, Massachusetts.[3][4]

Joseph passed away October 16, 1723, in Reading, Massachusetts.[5] BUT SEE R4search Notes

Research Notes

Torrey's information is that Joseph Brown died in 1708.[6] This stands in contrast with this source showing that he died in 1723.[7]

In September, 1708, Joseph Brown's will is proven, and it names his wife, Elizabeth, and known children. He also names his daughter Elizabeth "Weson".[8] This seems to show conclusively that Joseph Browne's correct death date is in 1708 and that the Joseph Browne who died in 1723 was a different person.

Browne-256 and Brown-37361 appear to represent the same person because: Spelling of LNAB should be Brown per Massachusetts Vital Records (Reading) where he was born. His marriage to Elizebeth Bancroft is also recorded with the spelling of "Brown". Same vitals and parents. Please merge to Brown-37361

Browne-681 and Browne-256 do not represent the same person because: 2 different siblings.
