Biography

This is as far downstream as I intend to research. Hopefully a more direct family member will continue.

Obituary Published in Clarion Ledger on Oct. 12, 2010

Shirley Brown Stribling went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on October 9, 2010. Visitation will be today from 12pm – 2pm at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison, followed by a funeral service celebrating her life with Pastor Gary Strehlow officiating.

Shirley was born April, 24, 1934 in Northeast, Maryland, to James and Lucy Brown. She worked with Bell Telephone in Maryland and during that time met her husband of 58 years, W.L. (Bill) Stribling, who was stationed with the Army in Aberdeen, Maryland. She later retired from Mississippi Baptist Medical Center where she was a PBX/ switchboard operator. She loved God and her family and unselfishly put others needs ahead of her own.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Gary Brown and Carl Brown of Elkton, Maryland; and her sisters, Greta Brown of Elkton, Maryland and Zelda Cherwaty of Nottingham, Pennsylvania.

Survivors include her husband, W.L. Stribling; son, Gerald Stribling and wife, Deborah, of Clinton, MS; daughter, Karen Jenkins of Jackson, MS; granddaughters, Brittany Stribling McHann and Jenna Michelle Stribling of Clinton, MS; brothers, David Brown, Stanley Brown and Jay Brown of Maryland; sisters, Lucille Littleton of Newark, Delaware, Frances Dowell of Blountville, Tennessee and Phyllis Smith of Elkton, Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved very dearly.

The family would like to express many thanks to the Hospice caregivers and to St. Dominic's medical staff for their attentive care during Mrs. Stribling's illness. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Briarwood Baptist Church, Jackson, Mississippi.[1]
