Abraham was born in 1757 and passed away in 1842. He is the son of "Jakob the Wagonmaker" Braun/Brown and Elizabeth Goettgen.
ABRAHAM BROWN, b. about 1757, probably in N.C. He married 18 Oct 1784, Catherine Bonaker, daughter of Michael and Mary Bonaker. Michael Bonaker's Will was dated 4 Feb 1778, Rowan County , with Michael Brown as one of the executors . Abraham Brown may have married someone else earlier, as the birth date of daughter, Rosanna, according to all census records , precedes 1784, and the birth date of son, Jacob, on his tombstone gives 1783.
Abraham and Catherine moved from Rowan County, N. C , where they were married, to Washington County, NC (now TN) about 1789. He bought 150 acres on the Little Limestone from his brother, George, 11 Aug. 1791. This remained their home for several years. On 9 Oct. 1835, Abraham sold 220 acres of land on the Little Limestone to his son, Stephen. Probably this same year he moved to Vermilion County, Illinois, where some of his children were already living.
Abraham's Will , dated 18 Jul 1842, is recorded in Vermilion County. The executors of the Will made Bond on 23 Jul 1842, after the death o f Abraham. Probably Catherine died before 1850, as her name does not appear in that census.
According to Beckwith's History of Vermilion County, Abraham was one of the early settlers in that County. Settling near him was an Abraham Brown, Jr., however, research has determined that this Abraham was not a son, but a nephew. The Will of Abraham gives the names of all of his children , including the oldest son, Jeremiah, who had died before his father.
Some of the descendants of Abraham and Catherine became residents of the area near or in Vermilion County, Illinois. However, several of them remained in Washington County, TN and were still residents of Jonesboro and its vicinity in the 1870s.
Children named in the Will:
Married Catherine Bonaker, 18 Oct 1784; daughter of Michael and Mary Bonaker. Charles Dunn, bondsman; Hu Magoune, wit. (Rowan County, NC marriage records). These records also show a marriage between Abraham Brown (Braun) & Mary Hardmon, 27 Jan 1769; Joseph Hardmon, Michel Waller, bondsmen; Thos Frohock, wit. (believed to be a different Abraham as the Abraham in this profile would have been only 12 years old),
