Temperance (Brown) Ragland was born in Virginia.

Temperance Brown was born in September1852 in Buckingham County, Virginia.[1]Tempe is living with her parents Gabriel and Martha Brown and 9 brothers and sisters in Buckingham Co., Virginia in 1860.[2]

In June 1870 Tempe is living with her parents in the James River Township, Buckingham County, Virginia.[3]Tempe married James Monroe Ragland on 26 December 1870, Buckingham Co., Virginia and they settle in the James River District where James is a farmer.[4]

Tempe and James remain in the James River District and raise 10 children. They appear on the 1880, 1900 and 1910 census.[5][6][7]

James passes away in 1911. The 1920 census shows Tempe as a widow and her son Garland Lee Ragland, his wife Lula and 4 children are still living with her.[8]

On 23 Aug 1920 Mrs. Tempe Ragland applies for the Widows Confederate Pension. The application gives her birth, marriage dates and place, the death date and place for James M. Ragland.[9]

Temperance Brown Ragland passed away 15 January 1931, Glenmore, Buckingham County, Virginia from influenza.[10]The death certificate also shows the maiden name of her mother as Baird.[11]
