Biography

Julia was born in 1840 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.. Her family are in the 1851 England Census in 37 Bow Street, Castle Donnington, Manchester. Her father was Thomas Brown, a Surgeon and GP. She was one of 9 children! I am guessing the whole family emigrated to Newfoundland, Canada in the 1850s as they are not in the 1861 UK census. Perhaps Thomas Brown got a posting there as a Doctor?

Later Julia married Rev. George S. Chamberlain from Bristol, in La Poile, Newfoundland on 9 Jun 1866. George was a Missionary who had come out to Newfoundland to work. Julia passed away in 1868 aged 27 due to a tragic drowning accident at sea in Newfoundland, Canada in the ship Quitto (a Schooner). It was on a short trip to see some friends along the coast. It happened at Otter Point, Western Shore, Newfoundland. The ship missed the port due to fog and they stopped near some rocks. Julia tried to get to shore by stepping over the rocks but sadly got washed away by a wave with another passenger too. Her husband and only child Julia, a one year old baby at the time, survived. I have some newspaper notices with this info to post soon.
