Biography

Mollie Ruth Brown was born November 25, 1889 in Florrisant, Colorado. Her mother and siblings had joined her father in Colorado, moving from Kansas. [1] [2] Soon after her birth, the family moved into the San Luis Valley and settled near Mosca, Costilla County (later changed to Alamosa County), Colorado.

Mollie Ruth Brown married "Cy" Clarence Clingen Lay December 21, 1910 in Alamosa, Rio Grande County (later Alamosa County), Colorado. [3]

Mollie and Cy had a daughter named Pauline. [1] She died by drowning July 1, 1915. [2]

They also had two unnamed sons who died at or shortly after birth. [1]

In 1918, Cy's occupation, listed on his draft registration, was Stock Ranch Foreman for the Brazos Ranch. He was employed by W. A. Braiden of Rio Arriba, New Mexico. [4] They lived near Mosca, Colorado. [5] [6]

In 1935, after the death of Mollie's sister-in-law, Pansy Brown, her youngest nephew, three-year-old, Harry Brown lived with Cy and Mollie for a while. Harry shared fond memories of his time with Aunt Mollie and Uncle Cy.[7]

Mollie Brown Lay died May 7, 1938. She was buried in the Monte Vista Cemetery, Monte Vista, Rio Grande County, Colorado.[8]
