Note by Lilly Martin, June 29, 2019: Benjamin Brown, a soldier in the war of the American Revolution, was born February 17, 1763 in Orange County, Virginia.Early in life he moved with his parents to Wilkes County, North Carolina, and settled near the Yadkin River. At the age of 17, in 1780, he enlisted in Captain William Lenoir's company in Colonel Cleveland's regiment.He participated in the Battle of Fishing Creek, and the Battle of King's Mountain. While a resident of Wilkes County, North Carolina, Benjamin Brown reenlisted during 1780 under Capt. William Lenoir and Col. Cleveland. Also during 1780, he served under Capt. Paul Patrick and Cols. Armstrong and Isaac and was in the battle of Fishing Creek. Later in 1780, he was under Capt. David Vias(?), Maj. Lewis, and Col. Cleveland and was in the battle of Kings Mountain. During 1781 he served under Capt. John Cleveland and Col. Benjamin Herndon. He also served during 1781 under Capt. John Morgan and Maj. Hargrove. Brown was allowed pension on his application executed 7 January 1832 while residing in Elbert County, Georgia. FPA S16327.
