Biography

Research Notes

After the death of her mother, Vannie temporarily resided with a childless couple, Joseph H. Morrison and his wife, Ella (Utts) Morrison. She was enumerated as an adopted daughter in their household in 1880, but was likely residing with her paternal grandparents by 1890. Vannie's daughter, Mable, listed her mother's name as "Vannie M. Morrison" on her marriage license.

Why she was placed with the Morrison/Utt family is not yet known.

Vannie appears to have been separated from her husband by the time of his death in LaGrange, Indiana on 17 February 1910. His obituary makes no mention of his wife or children. It did note that he had lost an arm in a railroad accident some years earlier.

Sometime before 1920, Vannie was committed to the Dixmont Hospital for the Insane in Kilbuck Township, Allegheny County, PA. She remained there until her death.
