Morris Harvey College (U. of Charleston) 1957 Attended Berea College, Berea, KY---met and married Louise Johnson of Greeneville, TN Daughter Patricia Ann born Oct 16, 1950; son Steven Powell born Sept 6. 1953. July 1950, employed as lab technician at Nitro, WV American Viscose Plant (fibers mfg.) Nov 1956, elected to six year term on Putnam County, WV County Commission. July 1967, transferred to Parkersburg, WV American Viscose Plant (Process Chem Supvr) March 1972, employed by Polaroid Corp., Waltham , MA, Quality Manager. April-Dec. 1974, at American Viscose (FMC Corp) Parkersburg, WV as Technical Supt. Jan 1975- July 1976 at FMC Corp Chemical Group, MIS Dept. Manufacturing Consultant. July 1976-April 1988 at FMC Corp., Baltimore Ag. Chemicals Plant, Quality Assur. Mgr. April 1988, retired from FMC Corp., earned real estate license. 1992-2001 U. S. Since 1955, my wife and I have been active members of United Methodist congregations everywhere we have resided. We have been married more than 66 years. In addition to our two children, we have three adult grandchildren, Derek, Zachery and Abby.
After our children entered school, my wife Louise returned to college full time and was always on the dean's list. She earned both bachelor and masters degrees in elementary education and reading. She taught elementary school (usually first grade) for about 16 yrs. and served for about 10 yrs as staff reading resource person.
My father was a coal miner for 11 years, a chemical operator for 10 years and retired from working out of the local carpenters union hall. He lived to the age of 78. My mother always war home and lived to the age of 94. She did well at caring for her husband and seven children.
My paternal grandfather, William A. Brown, Jr., worked in the coal mines for 50 years---from age 15 to 65. He was quite active in getting the United Mine Workers Union organized and recognized in West Virginia.
My maternal grandfather, Solomon Davis McCormick was a diversified hillside farmer and worked as a cabinet maker, especially in the winter months.
