Abel and his future wife Hannah Ward stated their Intention To Marry on 19 Nov 1829 in Pelham, Massachusetts, the town of Hannah's birth. [2]
On 17 Dec 1829, at the age of 26, Abel married Hannah Ward in Pelham.[3]
Abel and Hannah settled in Belchertown, Massachusetts where they raised their large family. [4][5][6][7]Their children were:
Sally Emeline Brown, b. 5 Jun 1830; married Chapin Murdock Seagraves
Hannah Jane Brown, b. 4 Feb 1832; married Mendall Howard
Mary Lucretia Brown, b. 1 Apr 1833; married Charles Scott
Abel Prentice Brown, b. 25 Aug 1834; married Louisa M. Preston
John Bradford Brown, b. 11 Sep 1836; married Mary Henrietta Vinton
Martha Bertha Brown, b. 23 Sep 1838; married Jared Gould
From the Brown Genealogy: "Abel Brown was a farmer and owned two hundred and fifty acres of land, and the ten children were born in the same house, which is standing in 1914, and where he died. There was a reunion of this family in August 1896, at the old homestead in No. Belchertown, when all the children were present except the youngest, Lafayette Brown, who was then living in the State of Michigan. There were then living twenty-three grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. It was a memorable event in the history of this family." [8]
Abel died on 25 Aug 1869 in Belchertown. [9][10] and is buried in Pelham at the Knight's Corner Burial Ground. [11]
