Sarah (UNKNOWN) Babcock migrated to New England during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640). Join: Puritan Great Migration Project Discuss: pgm
Do not confuse Sarah Unknown, wife of James Babcock of Rhode Island, with Sarah Bourne, daughter of Thomas Bourne and wife of Rev. Nehemiah Smith. Although she has been described as Sarah Brown aka Bourn, no evidence exists to show a relationship. Her last name at birth as described by Cutter and by Effingham, is Unknown.
Sarah and James Babcock had settled in the town of Portsmouth, Rhode Island by 1642.[3] James Babcock moved to Westerly, Rhode Island in 1662, Sarah's death is recorded as 1665, presumably in Westerly.[4] Actually the date should be after 18 May 1665. On that date James, with consent of his wife Sarah, sold his property in Portsmouth to Thomas Fish.[5]
Sometimes believed to be Sarah Brown, d/o George Brown, b. 23 Jan 1613 in Essex, England. Married 2 Mar 1638 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island
The children of James Babcock and Sarah were - [6]
1. James who was born about 1641 and married Jane Broun
2. John who was born about 1644 and married Mary Lawton
3. Job who was born about 1646 and married Jane Crandall
4. Mary who was born about 1648 and married William Champlin

UNKNOWN-216345 and Brown-596 do not represent the same person because: I believe this Sarah Brown was married to another James Babcock, the children listed do not match those of James Babcock-1153 : born 1612
UNKNOWN-216345 and Brown-596 appear to represent the same person because: These are intended as the same wife for James Babcock. Please read notes for Sarah UNKNOWN-216345 and note "Unknown" is correct Last Name at Birth. LNAB "Brown" in Brown-596 and the portrait simply an attempt to personalise that particular profile.
Since her husband is not PGM, she should not be either. Can Rhode Island (US History) pick her up so she can still have project protection?
