George Browne immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).
George Brown, baptized at Salisbury, St. Edmund's, Wiltshire England on August 29, 1622, was the son of George Brown and Christian Hibbert [1] who were married in the parish church of St. Edmund's, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England, on September, 30, 1611. His father George Brown died in England November 8, 1633 leaving his widow and three sons Henry, William and George. Widow Christian Browne came to New England with her three sons and was of Salisbury, Massachusetts in November,1639 when she received a land grant in the first division. [2][3][4]

1672: 1675: 1680: 1692: Served as Representative for Haverhill. [6][5]
1676: June- August: Soldier in King Phillip's War under Captain Gilman. [5]
George married first Ann Eaton on June 25, 1645. [5][7][8] His wife Ann was baptized on September 14, 1623, at Hatton Co., Warwick, England, daughter of John Eaton and Ann (Unk) who came to New England by 1640. [1]
In John Eaton's will, dated August 6, 1660 and proved on April 13, 1669, he mentions among his heirs, daughter Brown and son George Browne. [1][9]
His wife Ann died on December 16, 1683 in Haverhill. [8] They had no children. [5][1]
He married second, March 17,1683/4 at Haverhill, widow Hannah (Grant) Hazen of Rowley. [5] Hannah, widow of Edward Hazen, was baptized at Cottingham, Yorkshire, England on October 16, 1631, daughter of Thomas and Jane (Haburne) Grant. [10][11]
On September 9, 1693, George adopted Hannah's youngest son Richard Hazen as sole heir to his large estate. [12]
Captain Browne died October 31, 1699, aged seventy six years. [8][5][12] He is buried in the Pentucket Cemetery at Haverhill, where his inscriptions reads: George Brown Died On October 30, 1699 Aged 78[13]
In his will written on June 16, 1699, George left bequests to, among others:
my now wife Hannah, executrix
my adopted son Richard Hazen, son of Hannah, executor
Sarah, wife of Daniel Wicom, my wife's daughter
Ephraim Brown, grandson of my brother William Brown
Nathaniel Brown, son of my elder brother Henry Brown
cousin George Brown, son of Philip Brown, a son of my brother Henry [14][5]
Hannah died in February 1715/16 at Haverhill. [8][5] She is buried in the Pentucket Cemetery at Haverhill, Massachusetts. [15]

According to the "History of Haverhill," in 1685 George Browne was referred to as a Lt. (Page 144), but by 1692 he was referred to as Capt. (Page 164).
