Giles Browne was the son and heir of Sir John Browne of Flamberts, Essex, and Catherine, daughter of Sir Henry Buttler of Hertfordshire.[1][2][3]
His year of birth is unknown and is estimated as 1585.
In the Visitation of London 1633-1635, he was recorded as Giles Browne son and heir of Sir John Browne of Flamberds, Essex and Katherine daughter of Sir Henry Buttler of Hatfield Woodall, Hertfordshire. One pedigree was recorded by Giles' brother Thomas Browne, and a second by his brothers Humphrey and Henry.[2]
The manor house of Flambards was "above a mile and half north-west from the church" [of Cold Norton].[4]
Giles Browne married Mary, daughter of Sir William Harris alias Herris, Kt, of Crixce [Creeksea], Essex.[1][3][5][6]
In the Harris Pedigree in the Visitation of Essex in 1612[5] he was recorded as Gyles Browne Esq. of Flamberts, Essex, the husband of Mary Harris, 2nd daughter of Sir William Harris and Alice Smith of Crixse, Essex.
"Giles married Mary, daughter of Sir William Harris of Cricksea, Kt and had by her Arthur Browne esq. who married Anne, daughter of John Aylmer".[6]
The Marriage Settlement for Giles Browne esq. and Mary Herris indicates that they were married around 1611.[7]
The Marriage Settlement dated 01 Jun 1611 was between:
(1) Sir John Browne, of Cold Norton, Knight and Lady Cicil his Wife.
(2) Sir Will Herris, of Cricksea, Knight and his s.&h. Sir Arthur Herris, Kt.
(3) Giles Browne, esq, s.& h. of Sir John Browne and Mary Herris, d. of Sir Will. Herris.

Children of Giles and Mary Browne:[8]
The Brown Pedigree in the Visitation of Essex in 1664-1668[3] was recorded by his son Arthur Brown. Arthur was living in 1664 and was of Flamberts. Arthur had married Anne, daughter of John Aylmer of Mowden Hall, Essex. Their children were Gyles, son and heir, age 9 in 1664, and Arthur.
Giles Browne was the Executor of the will of his brother in law Thomas Herris, the will made on 10 Mar 1616/1617 and proved 08 Jul 1617. The will also noted two sisters of Giles namely Mary Browne and Frances Browne.[10][11]
He inherited Flambards on the death of his father on 18 May 1619.[6]
In 1622 he was noted in the will of Sir Thomas Herris of Maldon, Essex.[12]

Also in 1623, it is presumed he was the Giles Brown Esq who refused to depart from Malden to his country house for Christmas as all noblemen and gentlemen were required to do by proclamation for the sake of hospitality.[14]
Giles Browne was appointed Executor of the will of his brother in law William Herris, the will made on 28 Mar 1622 and proved on 11 May 1622.[15][16]
He was also noted in the will of his brother in law Sir Arthur Harris, Kt, of Woodham Mortimer, Essex, the will made on 04 Nov 1631 and proved on 18 Jan 1631/1632.[17]
In 1632 Giles Browne esq. of Flamberts, Essex, was recorded as the father of William Brown, the latter being a new apprentice to Humfrey Browne of the Mercers' Company.[9]
Giles Browne was an Overseer of the will of his brother Thomas Browne, Merchant of London, the will made on 31 Mar 1636 and proved on 07 May 1636.[18] In addition to Giles, the Testator also noted three other brothers; Humfrey Browne of London Mercer (presumably the Humphrey who in 1632 became Master to William Browne, son of Gyles), Henry Browne of London Grocer, and Edwin Browne of London Merchant.
The date and place of his death are unknown.
A will for Giles Browne has yet to be identified.
