Biography

Lucy Browne, the first daughter of the Reverend Arthur Browne and his wife, was born in Portsmouth about 1733. On February 25, 1750, she was married to Colonel William Smith of the British Army, who soon afterward left this country to join his regiment. In the autumn of that year Lucy accompanied her father to England, and went to South Wales, where her husband was stationed on military duty. Here she made her home with him until her death, which occurred in 1770.
