DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
Yes, Browning-20 and Hazelton-618 are the same person: Mary Ann Hazelton (1851-1928) who married 1) George Washington Browning in 1870; 2) Warren Werten Garoutte in 1884; 3) William B. "Billy" O'Neal in 1908. This comes from The Browning Family History: David C. Browning and His Descendants 1782-1990, written and edited by Dottie D. Elliott, 1990, p. 96 - the page for George Washington Browning. I'm happy to send an image of that page to anyone interested. It also comes from personal knowledge of Mary Ann's granddaughter, Audrey (Garrison) Talburt, whose memories were documented and passed down to me (Audrey's granddaughter). I remember personally hearing Audrey explain how her grandmother, Mary Ann Hazelton, married three times, and her first two husbands had unfortunately died. Audrey said her second husband was a Mr. Garoutte, whom everyone called Wert, and he was a military man - and her third husband was Billy O'Neal. We have several photos of Mary Ann, including two with her third husband, which I'm also happy to share. So Browning-20 and Hazelton-618 need to be merged and the maiden name shown correctly as Hazelton.
Browning-20 and Hazelton-618 appear to represent the same person because: Maiden name was Hazelton, later changed to Browning through marriage. See Source information for more details.
