Sarah is said by many to be the daughter of George and Catherine (Vaught) Broyles but this is uncertain, even doubtful. The federal census shows they had two daughters born 1815-1820 and Sarah's birth in 1818 would work. Her marriage in Jackson County, Alabama, where George's widow Catherine is found in 1840 is another vote in favor. But this is in direct conflict with Sarah consistently giving her birthplace as Tennessee and that of her parents as Virginia-- George Broyles was living in Alabama by 1810 and he was born in North Carolina, so Sarah cannot be his child. As well, George's estate settlement appears to name all of his younger children and Sarah is not named. All that being said, there are no better candidate parents.
