The children of Samuel Thomas Broyles as given by Keith do not include Daniel.[1] In fact, Keith has no information about him at all. He is proposed here to be Samuel's son based on the names of his children which suggest a close connection to the Broyles families on Little Limestone Creek in Washington Co., Tenn. In particular the names Nicholas, Phebe, Samuel and Reuben evoke that region. Daniel had already left for Kentucky and was on his own when his father left Washington Co. for Cocke Co., Tenn., which may explain why Keith has no record of him.
Birth and death dates are from his cemetery entry in Unionville Cem., Putnam Co., Missouri. The tombstone is no longer legible. [2]
His family is reconstructed in several ways. First, a number of the children married in Parke Co., Indiana, where Daniel lived for a good number of years. He and Michael Broyles were the only two members of the family in that county and Michael's family is well understood, so unplaced marriages are assumed to belong to Daniel. Second, several children lived or married in Knox Co., Missouri. Their close association with each other combined with their Kentucky and Indiana birthplaces make them good candidates.
The 1850 census record is unusual. His age appears to be 36, not 56, and he and Margaret and their son Benjamin are living with John and Temperance Myers and family. Daniel's 1860 federal census entry has errors and might not be him. His wife is named Mary, not Margaret, and his birthplace is Virginia but his age correct and he is in Putnam County where he died.
