Biography

11 Mar 1782 - "Delilah Prather widow of Thomas Prather deceased... That she is aged ninety years, was married to Thomas Prather her only husband in the County of Green in the now state of Tennessee on the 11th day of March 1782 by the Reverend Samuel Doak Sr. a Presbyterian minister whose residence and services in this portion of territory now East Tennessee." ^[1]

10 Dec 1798 - The will of Delilah's father Jacob is probated in Greene Co., Tenn. Daughter Delilah Prather inherits 1/3 of the plantation, her choice of 2 horses or mares, 2 cows and calves, 2 steers. Thomas Prather is named an executor.^[2]

11 Oct 1803 - Thomas witnesses the will of Lewis Broyles, Greene Co., Tenn. Probated Oct 1804.^[3]

26 Nov 1803 - Thomas witnesses the will of Joseph Hixson, Greene Co., Tenn.^[4]

30 Mar 1813 - Thomas Prather writes his will in Greene Co., Tenn. Wife Delilah is to have everything during her lifetime to raise the children. The property is to be sold and divided equally upon Delilah's death. Daughter Polly Painter. Children: Elizabeth, Cathren, Mary, Nancy, Delilah, Johnathan, James, Jeremiah, Abigail. When daughters Mary, Nancy and Delilah marry they are to have property equal to Polly Painter. Delilah and sons Jonathan, James, and Jeremiah, are named executors. wit: William Brown, John Broyles, John Bird Senr. Probated 26 Jul 1813.^[5]

Note there are two daughters named Polly and Mary.

1850 - Delilah Prather is listed in the census of Greene Co., Tenn. She is living in the home of William Bitner who married her daughter Delilah. Her age is given as 88.^[6]

10 Nov 1851 - Date of death.
