Biography

William Nile Broyles is a direct descendant of Johannes Broyles of the 2nd colonization of Germanna 1717 in Virginia.

William Nile Broyles was born October 31,1887--Nile never liked that he was born on Halloween. He was the first son of Amos Dow Broyles and Lucy Isabella "Belle" Mitchell. His other siblings were Charles Hill Broyles aka Hill and Clyde Broyles. The day his mother died, the dinner bell was rung to bring Nile and his brothers in from the fields --he never could stand the sound of a ringing dinner bell after that. He married Myrtle Rhea, the oldest daughter and child of John Byrd Rhea and Mary Loucetta "Kate" Williams on 22 Nov 1906 in Sparta, White County, Tennessee. Their only child was born August 15, 1908 in Hale Center, Texas. Myrtle's father after his brother Stant Rhea's urging moved his family of 11 children and one new son-in-law to Texas as Myrtle's mother would not go unless all her children went. When mama was born she only weighed 4+ pounds( my father was a very small baby too) and was not expected to live--but she did and when she was 16 months, Nile, Myrtle and new baby returned to White County, Tennessee. Nile was a farmer and while cutting hay his machine hooked a log that had a nest of hornets--they stung Nile and his team of mules repeatedly--this was to come back and haunt him in later life as he developed asthma that eventually killed him. He died Nov 13, 1937 and was buried in Highland Cemetery in Sparta.
