Charles E. Broyles led a varied and very interesting life which you can read about in his autobiography.[1] He was colonel of the 36th Georgia Infantry Regiment (Confederate)[2] and a prominent lawyer and politician.
At the age of 49 he left Georgia for Colorado to try his luck at mining but settled back into practicing the law and having some success. His first wife Lucy died while he was getting himself set up, and he eventually met and married his second wife and raised an entire second family. Note that he had two sons named Charles E. and two named John A.!
Keith[3] reports that Charles was married three times, the second time being to Amanda Vandergriff. No evidence for this marriage has thus far been found and she is not mentioned in his autobiography.
Final resting place for Charles is located in Antonito Cemetery, Antonito, Conejos County, Colorado.[4]
