Biography

Reuben died a very young man before he reached his thirtieth birthday. After his death his widow Rosanna remarried to Adam Broyles, son of Adam of Conrad.

1768 - Reuben's birth is estimated to be 1768. The births of all of his brothers and sisters are recorded in the Hebron Birth Register but there is a gap with no birth recorded in 1768. This agrees well with his first child's birth in 1788.

c. 1787 - Reuben marries his first cousin, Rosanna/Rosina Broyles, daughter of Cyrus. The marriage certainly took place in Washington Co., N.C. (now Tennessee).

2 Sep 1793 - Reuben was security for the marriage of his sister Lea. Washington Co., N.C.[1]

1793 - Reuben Broils is listed as a private in Capt. James Scott's regiment of the Washington County Militia over the period August 31 to December 3.[2]

May 1797 - Rosannah Broyles, administratix, presents the inventory of Reuben Broyles, dec'd. Washington Co., Tenn.[3]

19 Sep 1797 - Three deeds relating to Reuben Broyles, deceased:

Cyrus Broyles sells to Rosanna Broyles, widow of Reuben Broyles, dec'd, one lot of 1/2 acres on the Little Limestone joining Cyrus, and to enclose her house. wit: Abraham Broyles, Samuel Broyles.
Nicholas Broyles sells to heirs of Rheuben Broyles for affection, 129 acres joining Cyrus Broils, James Grimes, John M. McAllister, Solomon Yeager, with the reservation that the heirs allow Nicholas and wife Dorothy the use of the part on the north side of Onion Branch. wit: Daniel Broyles and Abraham Broyle. Keith[3] reasons that Reuben, who was not taxed for acreage but whose estate contained farming equipment, was living on this land that Nicholas deeded.
Cyrus Broyle sells to Daniel Broyles, Tobias Broyles, Rosanna Broyles, land on the Little Limestone beginning on a line between Nicholas and Cyrus, and including a grist mill. wit: John McAllister, Abraham Broyles. [3]5:26

Broyles-459 and Broyles-379 appear to represent the same person because: Broyles-459 has an error regarding the mother. This should be fixed after the merge. Both profiles refer to Reuben the son of Nicholas. He married Rosannah Broyles, daughter of Cyrus and Mary (Wilhoit) Broyles
