He appears in the census as William Broyles.
25 Feb 1858 - John Willm Broyles marries Lyda Miller in Jefferson Co., Ky. Both are of that county. John is 23 years of age.[1]
The marriage record for Lyda Miller and John William Broyles is quite clear-- the scanned marriage book is online. But the census shows his wife's name to be Serelda S., and that's also the name on her tombstone. While it looks like he might have married twice, there's no evidence of a second marriage or that a second woman named Lyda even existed. Thus it appears that Lyda was Serelda's nickname.
