Margaret Bruce was born in 1750, in Frederick County, Virginia, a daughter of James Bruce, Sr. born circa 1720, in Scotland, and his wife, Margaret McMachen. James Bruce "suffered depredation" (i.e. damage or loss to property) during the American Revolutionary War, and is honored for his Patriotic Service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR patriot #A016110. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his daughter, Margaret and her husband, David Cox. [1]
On March 21, 1768, in Hampshire County, Virginia, Margaret Bruce married David Cox, born 1745, in Prince George's County, Maryland, a son of Friend Cox, born before 1720, in Switzerland. Margaret died before July, 1808, in Kentucky and David married secondly, Susannah Martin. [2]
