Thomas Bruce, 3rd Lord Bruce of Kinloss, 1st Earl of Elgin and Baron Bruce of Whorlton, was the 3rd son of Edward Bruce and Magdalene Clerk , born at Edinburgh 2 Dec 1599.[1][2]

Titles

He succeeded to the title of 3rd of Kinloss and 3rd Lord of Kinloss, in August 1613.[1] He was created 1st Earl of Elgin on 21 June 1633.[1][2] He was created 1st Lord Bruce of Kinloss [Scotland] on 21 June 1633.[2]

He graduated from Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1636 with a Master of Arts (M.A.) He was knighted 12 May 1638 at Windsor with the Prince of Wales.[3] He was created 1st Baron Bruce of Whorlton, county York [England] on 29 July 1641.[1][3]

He married, firstly, Anne (Chichester) Bruce 4th of July 1622 at Trinity Minories in London.[1][3][4]

One child:

  1. Robert Bruce

He married, secondly, Lady Diana Cecil, daughter of William Cecil, 2nd Earl of Exeter and Elizabeth Drury, 12th of November 1629.[1][3]

No evidence has been found the George Bruce is his son, so he has been removed as his child.

Thomas Bruce, Earl of Elgin died on the 21st of December 1663 at Ampthill, Bedfordshire, England, age 64.[3]
