Benjamin Franklin Bruce served in company E 4th Ga. Regt. for approximately a month and a half before he contracted measles at Andersonville prison. Before he had recovered from the measles. He contracted typhoid fever and died on July 12, 1864. He was an older man in his 50's as the 4th Regt. were known to recruit "boys and old men" for service as Guards at prison camps.
