Biography

William (Brus) Bruce IIIrd Lord of Annandale is a member of House of Bruce.

William's date of birth is uncertain, it was likely after 1142. We arent sure if he was second son or the oldest. He was the son of Robert Brus and Euphemia De Aumale. He passed away in 1214. According to the Foundation for Medieval Genealogy, [1] William's wife name was Christina but her surname is not identified. The Book of Bruce [2] also states that her name is unknown.[3]

William de Brus possessed large estates in the north of England. He obtained from King John, the grant of a weekly market at Hartlepool, and granted lands to the canons of Gisburn. Very little else is known about William's activities. He makes a few appearances in the English government records and witnessed a charter of King William of Scotland.

He married a woman called Christina, and had by her at least two sons.

Bobbie you don't consider Find A Grave as a reliable source but you have Ancestry trees as sources!

Is peoples Ancestry tree's considered a reliable source?

Beatrice de Teyden needs a profile manager, can someone assist?

As with many of our older, "legacy" profiles created before we had stronger rules in place this one of hundreds is in need of an update and re-write. It does not yet have reliable sources, but we don't remove the old sources until they are replaced with more solid sourcing.

Hi Bobbie and Philip

I don't really need another profile on my watchlist :) but I've adopted the profile of Beatrice de Teyden. I notice I've added a comment sometime ago on this profile, stating that she was the wife of Robert de Brewes, a totally different family then Brus/Bruce, without actually citing a source.

I'm not sure when, but I'll follow that up, and update her profile and propose then that she is disconnected from Sir William Bruce.

Thank you John, I was hoping you might have the Brewes source(s) easily at hand. Whenever you might have time/inclination.

Cheers!

This is an unsourced memorial on Findagrave. It has no gravestone/monument that provides us with contemporaneous death information. As such it cannot be used as a reliable source for a pre-1500 or even a pre-1700 profile.

Bobbie I haven't changed any data on this profile, this is the comments section, you are welcome to share any info you have on inscriptions for this profile, I would love to see.
posted by Philip Bruce
It's not possible to cite any inscriptions if the monument is not extant. If it was published in a very early history, we could cite that publication.

That's fine, Darlene, I understand. I simply said the parents (both males, and neither connected to anyone on this profile) should be removed from the Bruce profile you're attempting to merge here and I would have no problem with it.

Michael, we're merging away empty profiles with no information or dates that are, from reviewing, obviously meant to go into this family. Thanks.
Bruce-1687 and Brus-85 do not represent the same person because: The profile with no sources (or any other info) needs some serious editing before a merge can be done. The main reason is that the parents (111 and 112) are both MALE, but neither one would be the correct parent anyway. Disconnecting both parents of Bruce-1687 would allow the merge to go through; I'm sure both exist in someone's family line.

Bruce-1687 and Brus-85 appear to represent the same person because: merging away unsources/undated profiles. Please merge.
Beatrice de Teyden is not the wife of William de Brus, the Peerage has misquoted Cokayne. Beatrice married Robert de Brewes (died 1276) a totally different family, as his second wife, and their daughter Beatrice who was the heir of her mother married Hugh de Neville.

The website http://www.thepeerage.com/p91.htm suggests Beatrice Teyden, daughter of Paulinus de Teyden and Beatrice de Evermure, married William de Brus, son of Robert and Euphemia.

According to M. E. CUMM.ING BRUCE. Family records of the Bruces and the Cumyns, with an historical introduction and appendix, etc. [With genealogical tables.] Published 1870, William Blackwood and Sons Edinburgh. http://www.archive.org/stream/familyrecordsofb1870bruc#page/248/mode/2up "William de Brus married " Christina,"—family as yet unknown,—as appears by a donation to the church of Durham—" Christina, uxor Willelmi de Brus." —' Illustrations of Scottish History.' The name of Christian, or Christiana, continued in the family, descending to the aunt and sister of King Robert the Bruce."

I've checked FamilySearch.org, Foundation for Medieval Genealogy, and The book of Bruce. I cannot find any reference to a last name for his wife Christine. Should Christina of Huntington be merged into Christine UNKNOWN?
