Biography

Elisha Bruce was born in Framingham, Massachusetts, on September 14, 1695, the son of Roger and Elizabeth Bruce.[1][2][3]

He married Silence Newton in Marlborough, Massachusetts, on June 18, 1718. They removed to Worcester, Massachusetts, where their first child was born in 1720, then to Marlborough by 1725, and to Southborough, Massachusetts, by 1731. Children:[1][2][4]

  1. Jotham, born April 13, 1720, in Worcester; married, January 13, 1741-2, Miriam Newton.[5][6]
  2. Rebecca, born March 6, 1722, in Worcester.[7]
  3. Hebzibah, born December 30, 1724-25, in Marlborough; married, May 9, 1745, Amos Darling.[8][9]
  4. Elisha, Jr., born May 7, 1731, in Southborough; married 1st, January 8, 1754, Ruth Parmenter, 2nd, May 4, 1762, Esther Buck; died April 23, 1810, in Hopkinton, Massachusetts.[1][10][11][12]

Elisha Bruce appears in a deed dated May 1, 1762, in which he released and quitclaimed to his son Elisha, Jr., all his lands in Southborough including his right in "ye land now improved by my brother David lying and being the northerly part of the farm that was my honored father's." (Worcester Deeds, 46: 145).[13]
