Captain William Bryan, b. March 7, 1733, lived in Rowan County, North Carolina until 1779 when he joined his brother on his trip to Kentucky. He was wounded by Indians on May 23, 1780 and lived one week. His son William Bryan Jr. was killed in the same fight. William Bryan Sr. had married Mary Boone a daughter of Squire Boone and Sarah Morgan. After the death of William, Mary married Charles Smith, who in 1818 was 84 years of age. [7][8][9]

William Bryan married Mary Boone, Daniel Boone's sister.[10] They had 10 children (listed in wife Mary's profile).[11] William Bryan was "one of the Kentucky pioneers, and was killed by the Indians in 1780, while defending the Fort."[12] He's referred to as Captain Bryan by several descendants.

William Bryan was shot by Indians while hunting for meat and died from wounds a week later. William's son William Jr. was shot by Indians earlier, in 1780, and died. Captain William Bryan died in Kentucky in 1780.

William—the intrepid but tragic "Billy" Bryan whom the Moravians admired—declined the king's commission as Lieutenant Colonel and instead organized and led the establishment of Bryan's Station [[1]] (1775–79) near the present Lexington, Kentucky. He was killed there by Indians in May 1780. Only weeks before his death, he lost a son in a similar Shawnee ambush near the station. A few months earlier, he had learned that most of his Kentucky land claims were invalid. William and two of his sons—branded as Tories in Rowan County—were credited with rebel service for having participated in militia actions against Kentucky's Indians.

Pertinent information at NCpedia, quoting the Dictionary of North Carolina Biography, published in 1979 by the Univ f North Carolina Press. Note claims about forefathers of US Secty of State William Jennings Bryan -- does this differ from WJB's posted data, and if so, why or why not?

Bryan-2657 and Bryan-79 appear to represent the same person because: This got rejected but was clearly intended to be the same man.

However, the attachment of son William Bryant looks impossible, and so there needs to be some combination of a merge, disconnect, or data change, to bring this match Bryan-2657 into a rational state.

So if it gets rejected again, then please follow through also with a reasonable data or relationship fix. Thanks!

Please add your sources to this profile. Capt Bryan and Mary Boone are very well documented and there is no son named John. I believe John is the son of James Bryant / Briant/ Bryan 1738-1807 & Madelaine Jane Guerant 1739-1772

It’s extremely doubtful that William Bryant’s (Bryant-4686) father was Captain William Christopher Bryan Sr. (Bryan-2657). I doubt that there's any primary documentary evidence linking the two, having extensively searched for it.

My GGGG Grandfather was John Bryant (Bryant-4901). There's a Y-DNA similarity between descendants of him & of William Bryant (Bryant-4686), suggesting that they were close relatives, possibly brothers. There are census & land records showing that both John and William Bryant (sometimes spelled Briant) lived in Fairfield Co. SC in the 1780s and 1790s.

So far, Y-DNA results of descendants of John Bryant (Bryant-4901) & William Bryant (Bryant-4686) have not been matches with descendants of the Bryans/Bryants associated with Bryans Station, the Boone family or w/ Morgan Bryant, husband of Martha Strode.

Also, the supposed birth and death dates and place of death of William Bryant (Bryant-4686) don't match with the supposed dates etc. of William Bryan Jr., son of William Christopher Bryan Sr. William Bryan Jr. was supposedly killed May 7, 1780 at Bryan's Station, Fayette, Co, KY in the same battle in which his father was killed. Whereas, William Bryant (Bryant-4686) was definitely living in Fairfield Co. SC in the 1790s.

And William Bryan Jr, son of William Christopher Bryan Sr. was supposedly born in 1760, whereas William Bryant's (Bryant-4686) first children were supposedly born in 1758 and 1765.

It's hard to be definitive when so many facts regarding these two lines are unsourced, but when you compare what is known and allegedly known about William Bryant (Bryant-4686) and William Bryan Jr., they appear to be two completely different people who happened to have similar, common names. In any event, other than the name similarity, there has been no evidence or source given to connect William Bryant (Bryant-4686) to William Christopher Bryan Sr. (Bryan-2657).
