Commonwealth War Graves Commission report: BIOGRAPHY: Private, 528533, 1st Field Amb., Canadian Army Medical Corps who died on Monday 11 March 1918 . Age 27 . Additional Information: Son of Timothy and Sarah Bryant, of Bath, England. Cemetery: FOSSE No.10 COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, SAINS-EN-GOHELLE Pas de Calais, France Grave or Reference Panel Number: III. B. II. Location: Sains-en-Gohelle is a mining village 20 kilometres north of Arras on the road to Bethune. Fosse No.10 is a pithead and group of miners' houses south of the village. Historical Information: The Extension is on the South side of the Communal Cemetery. It was begun in April, 1916 and used continuously (chiefly by Field Ambulances) until October, 1918. There are now nearly 500, 1914-18 war casualties commemorated in this site. The Cemetery Extension covers an area of 2,134 square metres and is enclosed by a brick wall.

Headstone inscription reads: "Redeemed by the precious blood of Christ" commissioned by Mrs E.M.Gammon, 278 North Water St, Galt, Ontario.

This lists him as an electrician, of 5 Augustus St Galt; 5'5 1/2" and 37" chest; blue eyes and dark brown hair.

Circumstances of Death

"While working on a windlass, which was being used in the construction of an advanced dressing station at the head of a sap, in a trench. He was hit in the head by shrapnel from an enemy shell and killed."
