Charity Bryant was the daughter of John Bryant and Elizabeth (Davis) Bryant, and was baptized in Scarborough, Cumberland, Maine's First Congregational Church on August 25, 1737.[1][2] She married Samuel Holmes in Scarborough's Second Congregational Church on December 22, 1757.[3] Samuel and Charity moved to Machias, Washington, Maine between May 12, 1764 and July 26, 1766.[4] Samuel died in 1802, and the widowed Charity remarried Nathaniel Phinney, Sr. in Machias in December 1803.[5] She died at the age of 90, shortly before her obituary was published in the May 28, 1825 edition of the Eastport Sentinel.[6]
