The son of Samuel Bryant and Martha Wagaman, George was born and raised in Indiana. In 1856, the Bryant family moved west in a covered wagon drawn by a team of oxen.
After reaching Missouri, they settled in Grand River Township, a few miles northwest of DeWitt. As a young man, George helped his father clear the land and prepare it for farming.
George enlisted in the Union army on 02 Aug 1862. He served for a month with the 65th Missouri Militia, Company D and then was transferred to Company F for 3 months. He was a corporal when he was mustered out on 06 Dec 1862.
After the war, George married Zana J. "Zanie" Crispin on 07 Sep 1866. They were the parents of 6 children.
The Bryants established a cattle farm near Bosworth, Missouri. George went on to become one of the largest cattle breeders and feeders in that part of the country.
The story was told by family members that late in life, George was baptized into the Christian Church in a huge pond on his property. He was regarded as a man who was quick to offer a helping hand to his community and to those in need.
Zanie died in 1897. George remained on the farm for a few more years, but rented it out in October 1904 and moved into the town part of Bosworth.
He died of heart disease at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 7 days.
